Auto Expo 2014: Bikes to watch out for

Rahul Ghosh  New Delhi, February 3, 2014 | UPDATED 12:09 IST

The Indian bike market has evolved into a well oiled machine. No longer are Indians just concentrating on factors like fuel efficiency and affordability. Indians are now hungry for factors like technology, power, performance and also styling. Since the market ergonomics have changed, so has the priorities of manufacturers. They are now developing world class machines for India and in some cases, international manufacturers like Harley and Triumph are developing bikes specific to emerging markets. The 2014 Auto Expo therefore is all set to be the showcase of coming of age of the Indian bike market. Here's a sneak preview.
Bajaj Auto
Bajaj is all set to rock the performance bike segment with the new Pulsar 200SS. A fully faired version of the Pulsar 200NS, the SS packs in a full fairing and twin projector headlamps. At the back, the tailpiece is new and so are the new LED tail lamps. Clip on handlebars and a digital instrument panel make this bike a rather feature rich motorcycle. Powering the 200SS is the 200cc motor from the NS and it is expected to offer around 25horses. Apart from the 200SS, we also expect Bajaj to showcase face lifted versions of most of its production motorcycles.
DSK Hyosung
DSK Hyosung

DSK Hyosung is on a roll. It will launch the GV250 at the expo which is essentially looks like a full size cruiser but is powered by a 250cc V-twin DOHC 8-valve engine. Considering the amount of chrome which is draped around this cruiser, we expect it to be much loved by the Indian janata. The other unique bike displayed at the expo will be the RT125D. Now as you can see in the pictures, this is a endure bike and is powered by a 13.5bhp, 124cc single. With chunky tyres and minimal bodywork, this should be a rather fun ride. We hope Hyosung decides to launch this bike in India. The third exhibit from this brand is the GD250N. This is a naked 250 and comes packed with muscular styling and a load of features which make it attractive.

HD Street 750
Harley Davidson

Harley will launch the India specific Street 750 at the expo. Based on a brand new platform, the 750 will be Harley's bread and butter in India. The bike will be manufactured in India and therefore we expect a tempting pricetag. The Street 750 is powered by a V-Twin 749cc liquid cooled engine which is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. Apart from the 750, on display will also be four custom bikes which are once again based on the Street platform.
Hero Karizma
Hero Motocorp

This expo, Hero will show its bold new avatar. Across its pavilion, Hero will showcase refreshed versions of all its bikes which include the long standing CD and Splendor series. The company will also showcase start/stop technology which it will offer in the Splendor and Pleasure scooter. The company will also launch the redesigned Karizma and ZMR bikes which are sure to stir up the crowds. They pack in new looks, instruments and also witness a minor bump in power. Speculations are also ripe that Hero will also showcase a 250cc version of the Impulse.
Mahindra 2 Wheelers
On stands at Mahindra will be a completely reworked Mojo. Powered by a 300cc motor, the Mojo features new styling and a gamut of features all packed in an affordable package. A brand new scooter with revolutionary features is also expected to make its appearance at the expo.
Piaggio
Piaggio will showcase a range of new scooters which include the Sport which is essentially a LX125 in new attire. Also on stands will be the Primavera which is destined to replace the LX range worldwide. Featuring an all new design complete with stylish Italian design, the Primavera is sure to excite scooter lovers. It will be powered by 125 and 150cc machines, but the final Indian spec is yet to be revealed. Also on stands is expected to be the 946, a brand new scoot with revolutionary styling which packs in the ethos of the original Vespas. Powered by a 125cc monocylinder motor, the 946 also features ABS and ASR traction control. Piaggio will also showcase a range of bikes from the Aprilia and Moto Guzzi range.
Suzuki
Suzuki's stand will be occupied by the new Inazuma 250 which it has launched recently. The bike features oddball styling and is powered by a 248cc twin motor pumping out 26bhp. The company will also showcase refreshed versions of current models and also a brand new motorcycle ready for launch.
TVS
TVS is also set to rock at the expo and will showcase two in bikes. First will be a concept motorcycle and we expect it to be a 250cc contender. The second offering will be a scooter also in concept form. The company remains tight lipped about the specs of both the scooter and the bike.
Renegade
UM Group

The UM Group is making its India foray at the Expo. The company will showcase a rugged looking cruiser called the Renegade Commando. The Commando is powered by a 223cc single motor and pumps out 18hp. Also on stand will be the Renegade Sport which sports a 200cc single. Apart from cruisers, the company will also have Xtreet which is a naked street bike.
KTM RC 200
KTM

KTM will rock the motorcycle industry with the RC200 and the RC390. These are essentially fully faired versions of the Duke 200 and Duke 390 which is already sold in India. However these super sports bikes will feature more features and a larger pricetag. On display is also expected to be the bigger and beefier 690 Duke and 1190.
